The North Poles
When we think about the North Pole, the top of the Earth, it turns out there is more than one pole.
Everyone knows about the Geographic North Pole. This is the place where Earth's axis of rotation meet. This is what we think of as the true north pole.
There is also the Magnetic North Pole. This is the place where all compasses to when they point north. As strange as it may seem, this point is not very close to the Geographic North Pole.
There is also the Geomagnetic North Pole. This is the point where the Earth's geomagnetic field is closest to the Geographic North Pole.
Finally, there is the Arctic North Pole. This is the place in the middle of the Arctic Ocean which is the farthest from any coastline. It is also known as the "Northern Pole of Inaccessibility."
